"Once the Lord's Prayer gets hold of you, my experience is that it never lets go," says Dr. James Nestingen, the host in this 9 part video series that explores the Lord's Prayer. "It encompasses those points at which faith and life intersect and where you find yourself in life's crucible," he adds. "It is a table of contents to the Christian faith." Dr. Nestingen is Professor of Church History at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, noted speaker and author. He has written this year's Bible study for Lutheran Woman Today on the topic of the Lord's Prayer. His exploration of the Lord's Prayer in When You Pray... is navigated with a pastor's heart, as rich in story and humor as it is in scholarly insight. When You Pray... The Lord's Prayer with Dr. James Nestingen takes us through nine 25-minute sessions with an extensive study guide. The nine sessions are as follows: The basis of prayer- we begin to ask why it is we dare to pray. Our Father who art in heaven- who is this God that we pray to, and what can we expect from this God? Hallowed be Thy name- we consider what it means to call God holy. Thy kingdom come- we ask God to bring us to faith, recognizing it as a gift. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven- we explore in greater depth what it means when we pray for God to take control of our lives. Give us this day our daily bread- we are invited to remember God's great generosity. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who tresspass against us- we consider how God clears out our past, and opens us up to a new future. And lead us not into temptation- we ask God to protect and keep us, so that we might live in the hope of that resurrection. But deliver us from evil- we ask God to take care of us now, and until the very end. Nine 25-minute videos with an extensive study guide that includes background information, discussion questions and prayers.
